Last weekend I and a group of other PCVs headed to Batumi, a Georgian city on the coast of the Black Sea. Part of the trip was for business (there were meetings, productive meetings!), but the rest was for fun. It had been over a year since I’d been to anything resembling a beach or had any occasion to don a bathing suit, so it was such a treat. There were a few dangers to navigate (not for regular people, just people like me who are klutzy and fall down a lot). Black Sea beaches are pebbly, not sandy, so I had to be careful about walking around without shoes. Also, there were a few times that I almost perished while trying to climb out of the water. But I survived and did not really come close to drowning at all! There were beach chairs and umbrellas and sunburns. We ate delicious breakfasts in the morning and yummy dinners at night. There was great conversation and interesting banter and lots of giggle fits. A perfect little rest. Good people and good scenery: what more could one ask for? Just maybe that it could have lasted a bit longer.
So, I forgot to take my camera (doh!), but luckily others did not. And some of those others happen to be prolific bloggers and fantastic photographers. If you would like to take a look at their photo album of our mini-adventure, you can check out their blog here.
Wait, did I just see a palm tree go by?
It’s practically California!
That is awesome. Sounds like a wonderful trip–and I’m sure a well-deserved break. Is that you in the black-and-white polka dot suit? So cute! Love it!
I’m loving the travel…and have to say I’m extremely jealous. It’s nasty & rainy here in D.C. so I’m glad you’re out & about enjoying the Georgian beaches. Enormous hugs!
Since when did you start falling down so much? Ditto on what Liz said, it’s been raining like monsoon season around here, blah
Oh, you know me. I fall down all the time! Remember when I sprained my foot stepping off a curb? Also, remember that time you walked me home after trivia night back when we first met and I fell down right in the street. If I recall, you gallantly tried to pretend you didn’t notice! Kelley: always falling down. Luckily I have soft bones.
